\n\t\t\t\t\t\tIntroducing theorist Doreen Mende, who will participate in the symposium accompanying CANICULA and taking place at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi, Venice, on October 26\u201327, 2026

Doreen Mende (@ree.mende) will join the symposium with a lecture titled \u201cMeasuring Distance. Scaling Intensity. Metabolic Realism\u201d

Doreen Mende is co-founder of the Harun Farocki Institut in Berlin. Her curatorial work engages the geopolitics of exhibiting, archival metabolism, and modernities of internationalism through visual cultures. Until 2025, she was Professor at HEAD Gen\u00e8ve, with continuing research affiliations in Switzerland, alongside recent engagements in Ghana, Sweden, and Singapore. During her tenure as Director of Research at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, with a focus on the provenance of museum objects as witnesses, she initiated the multi-year consortium min(d)ing: the relational capital, launching in November 2026. Recent exhibitions are \u201cCandida H\u00f6fer: Contexts\u201d (2024) at the Kupferstich- Kabinett Dresden, a.o. and \u201cThe Missed Seminar\u201d (2022\/23) with Steve McQueen at the Albertinum and Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. Publications include the series \u201cEntangled Internationalisms\u201d (with vinit agarwal, Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, a.o., 2024), \u201cStannaki Forum\u201d (2024), and \u201cNavigation Beyond Vision\u201d (with Tom Holert, 2022). Mende holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London.
