In Between Art Film’s collaboration with MAXXI Museum stems from the idea of giving visibility to artists and filmmakers who produce experimental video that shall be not accessible within the canonical circuits of distribution.

The new video gallery powered by In Between Art Film was conceived to host curatorial projects, exhibitions and screening program, giving the possibility of free access to the museum’s audience.

Furthermore, one of the main goal of the In Between Art Film project is to enrich the MAXXI permanent collection thanks to the donation of contemporary video artworks.

Since 2016 miartalks will be organized in collaboration with In Between Art Film. More than 40 international artists, curators, museum directors, and writers have invited to share their ideas in conversations and roundtables within a specific thematic framework, in keeping with the concept of the miartalks as a multidisciplinary forum.

In Between Art Film started the collaboration with Bim co-producing  27 new artworks, commiossioned for this occasion. In 2018 In Between Art Film has continued to collaborating with BIM producing the bran-new film by Neïl Beloufa titled “Restored Communication”.

In 2017, Tate Modern launches a new cinema programme, bringing together experimental films, documentaries, live cinema, and talks to investigate and challenge boundaries between art and moving images. The Tate Film cinema programme was curated by Andrea Lisson until April 2020. In Between Art Film’s cultural partnership with Tate Film aims to foster international dialogue while promoting public involvement with an understanding of contemporary art.

Journey to Russia (1989–2017)

Six-channel video and sound installation about the artist’s journey.
The digital video is transferred from various formats, color and black-and-white, sound 88 min. Co-produced by In Between Art Film.

Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi visited the Soviet Union at the end of the 1980s. It was during the closing years of the Soviet Empire, and the words on everyone’s lips were glasnost and perestroika. They wanted to gather the memories of the cinematographic literary and artistic Russian avant-garde of the ’20s and ’30s, seeking out survivors and listening to their life stories.

They both had the habit of filling up notebooks with thoughts, drawings, notes and recipes: a hotchpotch which reflects their own way of working.

In 2017 In Between Art Film has been supported FEATURE EXPANDED European Art Film Strategies, the first training programme designed to support visual artists who want to make a full-length film. The project is directed by Leonardo Bigazzi and Sarah Perks. In Between Art Film has continued to support Lo Schermo dell’Arte in 2018 and 2019.

Led by Chief Curator Diana Campbell Betancourt, local and international guest curators from leading institutions are commissioned to conduct research across South Asia, unlocking new areas of inquiry to build collaborative group exhibitions and experimental writing initiatives, as well as film and talks programmes.

In Between Art Film collaborated with The Dhaka Art Summit, 2018, specifically to document the Summit, with a focus on the Performance programmes, Talks and Panel discussions.

Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennal, originated in the early 1990s, has developed a dialogue between art and society in Europe, by inviting the cultural and artistic community to produce new creative experience.

In 2018 Manifesta has chosen Palermo as a laboratory to investigate the challenges of our time and look for traces of possible futures. “The Planetary garden” has explored the concept of coexistence in a world moved by invisible networks though the unique lens of Palermo.

In Between Art Film and Manifesta have collaborated to produce some projects involving different artists such as Yuri Ancarani, Jordi Colomer and Masbedo.

LOOP is a platform dedicated to the study and promotion of the moving image. Founded in 2003, since its creation it offers a specialised audience a curated selection of video-related contents from challenging perspectives. In 2018, on the occasion of its first collaboration with LOOP, In Between Art Film has presented a video selection curated by Paola Ugolini, featuring works by 10 international artists that variously deal with domestic architecture and the urban space. In 2019 In Between Art Film has produced Masbedo’s solo show at MNAC, Museo Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Barcelona.
